چکیده

In order to identify direct and transient changes in human cortex under influence of the training with audio-visual stimulation (AVS) various EEG measures were estimated. In the course of 2 months, 25 repetitions of a 20 min AVS program with stimulation frequencies in the range 2-18 Hz were applied to 6 healthy volunteers. EEG data were recorded from 6 head locations during relaxed wakefulness prior, during and after AVS. Entrainment as a direct reaction to AVS was well developed in majority of cases, being strongest in backward regions and spreading also to other cortex locations. Transient effects displayed significant decreases in beta and gamma bands across head locations, and increase of theta-1 and alpha-1 coherence in central cortex regions.

Does High Frequency Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) Affect EEG Gamma Band Activity?

Background: Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is a noninvasive, inexpensive and safe analgesic technique used for relieving acute and chronic pain. However, despite all these advantages, there has been very little research into the therapeutic effects of TENS on brain activity. To the best of our knowledge, there is no evidence on the effect of high frequency TENS on the gamma ...

Stress and Perception of Emotional Stimuli: Long-term Stress Rewiring the Brain

Introduction: Long-term stressful situations can drastically influence one’s mental life. However, the effect of mental stress on recognition of emotional stimuli needs to be explored. In this study, recognition of emotional stimuli in a stressful situation was investigated. Four emotional conditions, including positive and negative states in both low and high levels of arousal were analy...

Effects of Neonatal C-Fiber Depletion on Interaction between Neocortical Short-Term and Long-Term Plasticity

Introduction: The primary somatosensory cortex has an important role in nociceptive sensory-discriminative processing. Altered peripheral inputs produced by deafferentation or by long-term changes in levels of afferent stimulation can result in plasticity of cortex. Capsaicin-induced depletion of C-fiber afferents results in plasticity of the somatosensory system. Plasticity includes short-term...

The effects of locus coeruleus electrical stimulation on brain waves of morphine dependent rats

Introduction: Opiates cause dependency via affect on central nervous system. Locus coeruleus nucleus is a main group of noradrenergic neurons in the brain that plays an important role in the expression of opioid withdrawal signs. During opioid withdrawal, brain waves change in addition to physical and behavioral signs. In this study, we examined the effects of locus coeruleus electrical sti...
